Whats your real name? Where did you come from?
Scott Waters has referred to me as both “Riley the Rainbow Unicorn” and “Ice-Dragon.” Although I am honored to be recognized by such a well-dressed man, neither of these names are legitimate. I come from Boulder City, NV.
What year are you? Major?
I’m a sophomore majoring in Environmental Engineering with an emphasis in afternoon naps.
Specialty (Road/type(s), Mountain/type(s), Freeride, etc)?
99.999% Mountain biking. Mostly all-mountain stuff. I raced the gravity events last collegiate season and have been dabbling in the enduro scene this off-season.
How long have you been riding?
I’ve had a mountain bike for about 5 years but I’ve been “consistently” riding for about 2. Those other 3 years consisted of the bike sitting in the garage while I watched DVD’s of people actually shredding.
Favorite areas to ride?
Bootleg Canyon is about a 2 minute drive through town from my house so that will always be a staple. Demo forest in Santa Cruz was probably my favorite. It had the bumps and technical lines like bootleg has but you had soil to break your fall, unlike the broken glass-like rocks at bootleg. You also had shade from these tall green things (someone told me they’re called trees). Just outside of St. George, UT there are also some awesome trails. It’s got some awesome free-ride sections and sweet downhill features.
What’s your favorite food before, during, and after a ride?
Before a ride as long as it’s not DC food I’m happy. My standards are pretty low after living in the dorms.
During I like cliff bloks and a banana or an apple.
After a ride DC food always sounded good. My culinary options have been pretty poor this past year.
I should find some.
Jumping widowmakers and solving the internet seem to be trending hobbies for Riley.
These particular hobbies seem like the makings of a young Al Gore or something.
Most memorable moment of the season? How about of your life?
Of the season would have to be the Parkfield Invitational. From discocar to pixie bikes to Eddie hitting a kid in the head with a water bottle at the raffle and Oakley’s disappearance, it was probably the most fun I’ve ever had. It was a good introduction to the season and college.
Parkfield is typically one of the first, AND BEST races to attend in mountain season. Its a great way to bond,
ride kid bikes, earn prizes, and meet the infamous “tickets” (see scott waters youtube video about parkfield right here)
What are your plans this upcoming season?
Try to make it to as many races as I can and race B’s gravity. I have scholastic obligations that take priority so I don’t know if racing every weekend is a possibility. I’ll make it to as many as I can, though.
Why is it that we always see you with girls all the time…Whats the secret?? And how do you even have time for bikes and school???
CRAIGSLIST. During mountain season I didn’t sleep a whole lot on the week days to fit in my schoolwork. Which is why I was often found sleeping between events at the races.
So you’re caught on a boat that can only hold 4 people, and with you is Lance Armstrong, Oprah, Erica Greif, and Casey Coffman. Who do you keep and why?
Considering Oprah’s there all I’d have to do is look under my chair and there would be keys to a brand new boat. I’d exile Lance to the other boat because he’s a cheater.
The EPO boat, if you will. Seems like the Oprah yacht is the way to go.
